Stefan Eckert started his fashion career in his native city Nuremberg. There he devoted himself to learning the high art of tailoring, which henceforth characterized his work. Subsequently, the designer completed his studies at the Hamburg AMD, worked for Alexander McQueen in London and attended the master class at the renowned Central Saint Martins College.
The fashion designer founded his eponymous fashion label, based in Hamburg in March 2009. Following his conviction and passion – for the highest quality in material, workmanship and fit – the leather specialist designed a contemporary mix of ready-to-wear and traditional made-to-measure tailoring.
Since the beginning of his career, Stefan Eckert has been fascinated by the raw material leather. For him, leather has a profoundly philosophical appearance and stands as a metaphor for the consumer behavior and beauty ideal of our time. For him, the material unfolds its true character as time progresses. For Stefan Eckert, the true beauty of leather reveals itself in the wake of the scars and marks left by life. Each piece of clothing becomes unique thanks to its individual history and thus receives its own beauty.
In addition to the aesthetic aspect, the sustainability of his designs is equally important to Stefan Eckert. For the designer, this consists of two pillars – the responsibility towards man and nature.
Stefan Eckert rejects the production, both of his garments and materials used, in low-wage countries. This step is mainly due to the not always comprehensible working conditions. The certainty about it is essential for the fashion designer.
Therefore, he produces his collections exclusively by his own staff in Hamburg, which he partly trains himself as part of a three-year training to become a tailor.
The couturier is deeply convinced that he only uses leather from animals, which is a byproduct of the food industry. These include lamb, deer, moose, ostrich and python. The use of – exclusively for the skin or their fur bred or hunted animals – rejects the fashion designer.
In order to preserve the planet, waste production must urgently be reduced. High-quality produced parts, such as those by Stefan Eckert – whose durability is designed for a lifetime – can make a significant contribution. For this purpose, leather is excellently suited as a sustainable raw material. The material is recycled, so to speak, as a result of today’s still popular food production and further processed into a lifelong product of fashion. After all, turning away from today’s widespread disposable culture is one of the most important environmental factors. The company of the Hamburg-based designer makes an active contribution to this.
Tanning of the leather:
The tanning of the leather used today is already partly based on plants, so that environmentally harmful by-products could be reduced to a minimum during production.
