Stefan Eckert's principle is that no animal dies for the production of its leather. Therefore, the designer, out of deep conviction, exclusively uses leather that is a by-product of the food industry. Since this topic is often discussed by the public and the press without the necessary in-depth knowledge, we, as experts, would like to comment on it.
First, we would like to explain that an animal does not "also" die for its skin, but purely for the purpose of meat production. Anyone who calculates the market value, for example, of a lamb at the meat counter can understand this. It quickly becomes clear that the slaughter of the animal – even without further processing of the skin – is extremely profitable and would undoubtedly be practiced in any case. Therefore, no one saves animals by not wearing leather. The situation is different, for example, with crocodile leather or fur. Here, the value is clearly in the skin/fur. Stefan Eckert therefore wholeheartedly rejects the use of such types of leather.
In a nutshell, the further processing of animal hides into high-quality and lifelong durable products, such as Stefan Eckert's leather jackets, is recycling in the best sense and a valuable contribution to environmental protection.
All collection pieces by Stefan Eckert are exclusively manufactured in the in-house studio in Hamburg. All steps are carried out by Stefan Eckert's qualified specialist staff. In addition, the fashion designer trains new members of his studio team within the framework of a three-year apprenticeship to become a bespoke tailor.
